Hair Salon Near Clinton, CT: How to Choose the Right One
If you live in Clinton and you're tired of leaving the chair disappointed, we hear that a lot. A lot of new guests tell me during their first consultation that they've bounced between a few salons and never felt heard. The haircut grew out wrong, the color faded too fast, or the stylist rushed through without asking what they wanted.
We're Maven Salon, and we're not in Clinton itself - we're ten minutes up Route 1 in Old Saybrook at 144 Main Street. I'm Angela, and I opened this chair fifteen years ago with one mission: custom curated color and cuts that you can actually wear in real life. No looks that only work the day you leave the chair. Just gorgeous, liveable hair that works with your texture and your schedule.
Why Clinton guests choose Maven Salon
Decades-long client relationships. I have guests who have been sitting in my chair for over fifteen years. That doesn't happen by accident. It happens when a stylist listens during the consultation, delivers what they promised, and keeps your hair healthy appointment after appointment.
Expertise with curly and wavy hair. If you have texture, you know how hard it is to find someone who understands how to cut and color it. I specialize in curly and wavy hair. I know how curl patterns change as hair dries, where to place dimension so it doesn't look blocky, and how to shape a cut that doesn't triangle out.
Real life hair that you can recreate at home. We don't do trends for the sake of trends. We do color and cuts that grow out gracefully, that you can style yourself at home, and that still look intentional three months later. Every service ends with our Signature Blowdry, the finish that shows you exactly how to recreate the look on your own.
What to expect when you book
Your first appointment starts with a consultation. Not a two-minute chat while you're draped. A real conversation. I'll ask what you like about your current color or cut, what frustrates you, how much time you spend styling at home, and what your hair does when you air dry it. I'll feel your texture, check your natural root color, and look at any inspiration photos you brought.
Then I'll tell you what's realistic. If the color you want requires two sessions to get there safely, I'll say that. If your hair can't hold the cut you showed me because of your growth pattern, I'll explain why and offer an alternative that will work.
The appointment itself depends on the service. A cut and style takes about an hour. A full highlight with a cut and our signature blowdry takes closer to three hours. Custom color services vary based on your starting point and your goal.
We favor natural products where we can, and we're careful about what goes on your scalp. If you're getting color and your hair needs extra support, I recommend bond-building treatment during processing to keep your hair strong. Every service finishes with a blow-out that shows you the shape and movement of your new cut or color.
Pricing
Pricing depends on your hair length, density, and the service you're booking. A consultation determines the exact quote. See service details on our FAQ page, or call when you book for a quote.
One thing we won't do: surprise you at checkout. If the service is going to cost more than the estimate I gave you during the consultation, I'll tell you before I start.
Frequently Asked Questions
What happens during my first visit?
Your first visit starts with the consultation described above. We'll talk through your hair history, look at any inspiration photos you brought, and build a plan together before any scissors or color touch your hair. If you need to get in quickly, call the salon and we'll do our best to find a time that works for you.
How far in advance should I book?
For a regular cut or color, two to three weeks out is usually fine. If you're booking for a wedding, an event, or a major color change, book four to six weeks ahead. Wedding hair requires a trial appointment, and those book furthest in advance.
What if I don't know what I want?
That's what the consultation is for. Bring photos of cuts or colors you like, even if you're not sure they'll work on you. I'll talk through what's realistic for your hair and help you land on a plan that feels right.
Do you do color corrections?
Yes. I've been fixing box dye, over-processed highlights, and botched balayage for fifteen years. Color correction almost always takes more than one session, and the consultation is where we map out the safest path to get you where you want to be.
What products do you use?
We carry professional color lines and natural styling products. During your appointment I'll recommend anything you'll need to maintain your color or style at home, and we retail everything in the salon so you're not hunting for it later.
