Wedding Hair in Old Saybrook, CT: Booking, Trials, and What to Expect
Share
TL;DR: Booking wedding hair in Old Saybrook? Here's the timeline, the trial, day-of expectations, and pricing to plan for, from a stylist who's done dozens of weddings on the Connecticut shoreline.
The wedding hair questions I get asked most
I've styled dozens of weddings on the Connecticut shoreline, and the questions I hear from new brides are almost always the same. When should I book? Do I need a trial? What does it cost? What does the timeline look like on the actual day?
Here's the honest answer to all of them, plus the things I wish brides asked but usually don't.
Booking timeline
Wedding hair on the CT shoreline books out fast. Here's the realistic timeline:
- Six months out: Book your stylist. May through October fills up earliest.
- Three to four months out: Book your trial.
- One to two weeks before: If you have extensions, book a refresh move-up appointment.
- Day before: Fresh wash and condition, but don't dry shampoo or product-heavy your hair.
- Day of: Arrive with clean, lightly conditioned hair.
The trial
I strongly recommend a trial. Photos of styles on Pinterest can look very different on your actual hair texture, density, and length. The trial is a separate paid appointment where we:
- Try the actual style we'll do on the day
- Photograph from front, side, back, and from the angles where photos will be taken
- Check how it sits with your veil, headpiece, or accessories
- Adjust the plan based on what we see
Most brides do their trial 4 to 8 weeks before the wedding. That's close enough that we have a fresh reference for the day, but far enough out that we can adjust if needed.
Most-booked services
Wedding hair pricing varies by style and complexity. Here's the menu:
- Updo, shoulder length
- Updo, long or thick hair
- Signature Blowdry (priced by length)
- Glam-Up Makeup Application
For bridal parties of 4 or more, we book the entire group at the salon or arrange on-location styling at your venue. We quote by the head with a setup fee for travel. Email hello@mavenct.com with your headcount, venue, and date.
The day-of timeline
Plan to finish your hair appointment 2 hours before you need to leave for ceremony or photos. That cushion gives you time for makeup, getting into the dress, and the inevitable last-minute touches.
Typical day-of timing:
- Signature Blowdry: 30 to 60 minutes
- Updo styling: 60 to 90 minutes
- Veil placement and final adjustments: 15 minutes
What I wish brides asked
"What products will be in my hair?" I always tell you, but ask anyway if you have sensitivities. Some brides have specific reactions to hairspray brands, and we want to know.
"How do I keep my hair looking fresh through the reception?" I'll send you with a small kit of bobby pins, a touch-up spray, and a sealant. Re-fluffing the crown of your updo at the reception is a real thing.
"What if it rains?" We can plan for it. Anti-humidity sealant during your trial, and a touch-up bottle for the day.
"Can I see other weddings you've done?" Yes. Follow @mavensalon_ct for our actual portfolio.
If you want extensions for the wedding
Many of my brides come in 6 to 8 months before the wedding to start the process with Marie for sewn-in weft extensions. We then plan a refresh move-up appointment 1 to 2 weeks before the wedding to make sure everything is fresh and the wefts are perfectly placed.
See Marie's extension guide for details, or book her Extension Consultation first.
How to book
The first step for any wedding is an email or phone call. Send your date, venue, headcount (if it's a party), and what you have in mind. Email hello@mavenct.com or call (860) 552-6435.
I'll let you know my availability and walk you through next steps.
